| Squier 51 Review
The Squier
51 is a new offering from the “vintage modified” series which
blends timeless designs with new innovations.
Available for
an absurdly low price this great little guitar has the ’51
Precision Bass look transplanted, onto a Stratocaster body
and Telecaster neck.
The 51 features
a single coil pickup in the neck with a humbucker in the bridge
which can be coil tapped by pushing up on the volume control.
A rotary 3-way
control is used in place of a switch and allows selection
of the three pickup configurations.
Sounds are a cross
between a Tele and a Strat, the bridge humbucker sounds sparkly
and powerful and a thinner Tele bridge type tone is obtained
with the coil-tap.
Don’t however
expect a Custom shop model here, the fret ends are slightly
sharp, and the thick pickguard,
is going to be the first to go, but who can fault the 51 at
a price point cheaper than your average tweed case?
A
great value for money offering from Squier.
