LINKIN PARK: REANIMATION REVIEW

"Reanimation" isn't better
than "Hybrid" - last year's best seller - but it
is different enough to justify a buy.“

“They have taken one of the most successful
debuts in history and done more reconstruction on it than
Michael Jackson's face.”

Five days ago
I decided to visit my local music store to see what was new
and left with Linkin Park: Reanimation in my hands. After
having the label ‘Hybrid Theory’ burned on my CD player from
so much use and thoroughly enjoying ‘Pts.Of.Athrty’
on MTV I was convinced to buy this album despite some bad
reviews.
I was not disappointed…
Five days later
the album is still playing and I have Linkin Park tunes in
my head again.
It has been said
many times that there is no good remix album yet in my opinion
Linkin Park have defied this, dicing, slicing and reconstructing
their award winning ‘Hybrid Theory’ to create a remixed hip-hop/metal/industrial
monster so hard to categorise yet unmistakably recognisable.
The album in general has stronger hip-hop/industrial influences
than ‘Hybrid’ but still has enough guitar crunch to keep most
rock fans happy. The quality of the remixes is superb (with
the collaboration of nu-metal’s Korn, Orgy, The Deftones and
Staind, hip-hop's Kutmasta Kurt, Chali 2Na of Jurassic 5,
Pharoahe Monch, The X-Ecutioners and more) and experimentation
and originality is present throughout the entire album.
The generous 20-track record includes all songs from ‘Hybrid
Theory’ remixed such as ‘One Step Closer’ featuring Jonathan
Davis, ‘Crawling’ recreated by Mike Shinoda
with the voice of Staind’s Aaron Lewis, ‘Pushing me away’
with Stephen Richards, Jay Gordon for ‘Ports of Authority’
etc. It also includes the non-LP cuts “Hi
Voltage” remixed into a fully-fledged rap song with Pharoahe
Monch and DJ Babu and “My December”.
This album
is a must have for the fans but if you’re not into Hip-Hop
or industrial music it may not be for you. If you’re not sure
then try it out before you buy it.
